Three artifacts are to be submitted and may include Unit Plans, Student Feedback, Student Evaluations, Teacher Observations and Evaluations, lesson plans, assignments, and student work.
As a teacher I think it is important to allow students to be accountable for their learning. Many times students are forced to listen to a teacher just lecture for an hour about a certain subject. Yet, in order to fully grasps an understanding on the subject, it is necessary that the student is able to apply the knowledge and concepts they are receiving in all their classes and connecting them to music classes. History, PE, English, Math, etc are all apart of the music making in the classroom. If students are able to understand that music is dependent on other subjects they are learning about, their music making increases beyond just note to note making but to singing with a purpose.
Different ways to activate these different beliefs are, first I would like to spend less time speaking and more time allowing students to have the ability to process the music. If students are able to be apart of the music making then they feel as if they are part of something more. Also allowing students the chance to sight read and practice the different skills we are learning in class so they are able to learn how to critically think through this process and develop the ability to apply their knowledge from class. In class I think it is important that students can re-create the poetry and different aspects of the music. Specifically in the secondary class allowing for students to experience the process of creating poetry to connect to the poetry in their song. I would also like to have sectionals where students without the guide of a teacher can apply their knowledge as well as make musical decisions together and critically think together. In the elementary school a tool I learned to be helpful to guide rhythm is allowing students to experience this through body percussion. Through body percussion students are able to feel the beat for themselves and critically think how to solve where missed rhythms are.
