In my time at Kansas State University, I got to spend time studying the necessity of curriculum, pedagogy, technology, cross-disciplinary skills and knowledge of learns and the community context. These concepts are important for student learning and a classroom that is able to function at it’s full potential. In my study of curriculum I was able to understand the importance of course goals and course objectives that meets your philosophy of music education. In curriculum it is important to examine all of your music and know what educationally your students can pull from the music and also to pick music that is appropriate for the students age group. Pedagogy is important to be able to fully teach students. In elementary music we discussed many different forms of pedagogy and the importance of each and how I can use them in my class, as well as experiencing the pedagogy so that I understood how it felt and order to teach it to my students. We did many projects where we integrated technology into our music and discovering how technology can be a tool to aid the music discovery. We also discussed how we can bring out disciplines into music and create a well-rounded lesson where students are getting a full effect of how it can all be connected.
Some examples of these different concepts is in Music 512, we spent time correcting a curriculum that met exactly what the music classroom would need. We had the option to create a traditional choir or non-traditional curriculum and we spent time discussing the importance of each step of the process. In Music 670 I had the chance to create an elementary unit and understanding how “prepare, present, and practice” pedagogy is important for our elementary classrooms. In my student teaching I taught a unit for elementary where I taught fast and slow to kindergartners . During my secondary placement in student teaching, I was able to teach a unit on the song "Ciranda da Lua" by Daisy Fragoso. I this unit it was understanding how students in high school need to explore music for themselves but yet still have guidance from the teacher.
