4-1 Professional Learning and Ethical Practices
The candidate engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.
The candidate should complete a reflective essay demonstrating how they can develop professionally based on situations from their student internship.
In my time at Kansas State University I had the chance to learn about being professional in the classroom. As teachers, we have a responsibility to be continuously growing in our professionalism and knowledge of how to teach and how to treat our students, family and community. There are conferences that as a teacher I can attend as a teacher that will help in growth of professionalism. These conferences are KMEA and ACDA and there are more. I will also be constantly seek evaluation on how I am doing in the classroom and how I can improve for my students. I would also use these evaluations to check if I am meeting the needs of my students and how can I better come along side them in their learning. It is necessary that I am constantly assessing where the students are in their learning and what I can do to come along side the students.
I hope to be held accountable by the teachers around me. If they see an area of my teaching that is not professional or making decisions that are hurting the learners, teachers, or community that they will tell me. I want parents to feel that they can come and talk to me if they feel that my decision is not reasonable. Parents need to feel at ease with the teacher that is teaching their students. I also want to be able to work with other teachers in my building and be able to allow their fields to help me teach music better. Also being professional with substitute teachers in my class, leaving them class plans, and keeping in good relationship with them. I think it is also important that as a teacher I continue to evaluate myself by video taping myself teaching and learning where I can improve as a teacher.
