This week I got to explore iMovie (iMovie by Apple https://appsto.re/us/r0rFw.i) with my fellow colleague Tori Loepp. We worked on a project to understand how to create a 1 minute trailer to create a hook for a class. Currently we are both co-teaching a class called "University Choir" at K-State for a lab and we we wanted to make a trailer to introduce our big concert called "Rhapsody" that we are currently preparing for. We started by looking at different themes we could use on iMovie and what mood we wanted to set with our trailer. After we completed this we then set to making a story, taking pictures, taking videos, and trying to portray our excitiment of Rhapsody 2017 this year. The hardest part of taking pictures and video's is trimming them to fit in the slot provided for each scene. We had to retake many shots before we were able to fit certian shots in. We also had to think really hard about what would make sense to an audience for us to do in a video. We also wanted our video to look fun to a student who would want to join our choir and journey with us to Rhapsody 2017. Once we got the visual elements we changed the captions for each text screen and had to change many times how we wanted to tell our story to the audience. Once we finally agreed on text we put it all together and was quite pleased with how it turned out. We then took this video to some of our collegues and asked what they thought about the video and we got a lot of postivie results and even showed it to some students. iMovie creates another way for students to get excited and see purpose behind what they are learning. My favorite part is the whole process took less than an hour for us to create this trailer. Check out iMovie and see how it can change your lesson plan!
