For this project I had the opportunity to explore Note Card Confessions! I got to make a personal story and then a story for a composer. Through this project I got to experience how hard it can be to talk about your own story but also how well you can remember someone else's story through this activity.
The sequence for my project was first I used notebook paper to create notecards. You can also just buy some at a store. I then went and created a flow chart for 20 cards with max eight words on each card so I could see how I wanted the story to flow and what would be the best way to tell the story. I then moved on to writing on the card with a sharpie so could be seen on camera. I then went to a mirror and read the cards out loud to myself so I could see how long it would take to read each card and how much time would be needed before I flipped the cards. This was important because sometimes it is hard to flip cards. Next after this I recorded myself with the cards and then added music.
For the music classroom this activity could be used to help students connect to themselves about a song by them processing through life experience and getting to share with their classmates and creating a very intimate space. Another option would be to use a character of a piece that may be hard to connect to and have your students create a story for them. I know that after making my composer note card confession I felt like I remembered everything that was on the cards and that I could connect to him better. It could also be used as a first day project to get students engaged in the class and each other.
